Purpose

This policy sets forth the bases for admission into Mercer University programs.

Scope

This policy applies to all programs at Mercer University.

Policy Statement

  1. Admissions standards for each program of study will be specific, clear, reasonable and consistently implemented. Clear communication of expectations and periodic review of processes by the respective departments will ensure compliance with standards.
  2. Admissions policies will be consistent with Mercer’s mission. Admission policies will be reviewed periodically to ensure procedures are guided by the historic principles of religious and intellectual freedom.
  3. Admission standards for each program will be consistent with the standard of excellence that Mercer has set for each. Additional levels of standards will be met consistent with the various accrediting bodies associated with specific programs. The clarity, reasonableness and consistency of the application process will be ensured through adherence to applicable accreditation standards.
  4. Admissions standards for each program will be set at appropriate levels to identify students capable and qualified to complete the program successfully. Periodic review of admissions standards will compare success of students to ensure the standards are at appropriate levels.
  5. Application evaluations will be made consistently and fairly for each applicant to every program. Each applicant will be reviewed thoroughly and will be held to the specified standard of admittance set for the program. Admissions committees will review applicants and apply appropriate admissions policies to each application. Each applicant will be handled in a timely manner and notified of acceptance standings according to published deadlines set by the departments.
  6. If programs are offered by a department and vary in format that result in differing admissions criteria, admissions criteria must be clearly defined and justifiable.
  7. All admissions publications will be consistent and true to the admissions standards of each program and of the university. The collateral material will clearly communicate admissions policies for each program. Ongoing review of publication materials will ensure consistency.
