Purpose
Mercer University has provided formal assurance to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Department of Natural Resources of the State of Georgia that it will follow procedures which will assure the protection of all individuals involved with research projects.
Scope
This policy applies to all students, faculty, and staff at Mercer University.

Policy Statement
In order to comply with this assurance, Mercer University has established an institutional committee qualified to review research and instructional projects that involve radioactive agents. This committee has been designated as the Institutional Radiation Safety Committee (IRSC). The primary function of the IRSC is to assist the investigator in the protection of individuals and the environment from potential contamination. All projects that involve the use of these substances and/or devices are to be conducted under these guidelines.
